As a prior Law enforcement officer, I encountered many elderly drivers through traffic stops and/or accidents. Although the vast majority of them were excellent drivers, there were several whose medical conditions, either mentally or physically, had deteriorated to the point where they should no longer be permitted to possess a driver’s license. Unfortunately, by the time I encountered them, tragedy had already struck. Knowing that there were several family members, friends and doctors who may have known this person should not be driving was a little unsettling to me. I spoke to several doctors who stated they did not feel comfortable reporting a patient on suspicion alone and they were unaware of any service in the area to help. This prompted me to locate these services.  I soon discovered that there are services throughout Florida that specialize in driver’s evaluations but not in this area.  It was not long after that we started Allen Driving Academy.
